Schweich Releases Results of Branson Landing Audit

Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich has said something this week that Branson City Hall has known for quite some time – tax revenues at Branson Landing are not sufficient to meet the financial obligations allocated to the Transportation Development District or T-D-D.

Schweich released audit results for the Development District noting the overall performance of the entity was good, but saying the debt payments are the responsibility of the City of Branson, which used other taxes and city revenues to fund the remaining debt payments due.

The Branson Landing T-D-D was formed in 2005. The City is the sole owner of the land. Total debt service costs allocated to the district over the life of various infrastructure bonds were 42-point-6 million dollars.

First the Hospital, now Branson Landing whats next? Buildings vacant everywhere no tax money to be found. Is a Casino the answer? Wait and see. Maybe a strategic partner is in order for the City of Branson, Mo. just a partner no a full out sale. Branson Airport might just be Bransons best deal yet.

The reort is not shocking in the least. However, the 'reportage' is misleading in itself. The audit cover the TDD, not the operation or management of Branson Landing as this report seems to suggest. Everyone BUT the mayor and board of aldermen (at the time) knew the public was getting teamed on this debacle. ShockedNot

We (locals) do not shop Branson Landing because it DOES NOT support the local school system as Most of us are required to do. Also, the sales tax rate is beyond anyones definition of fair and reasonable. Sadly, the citizens and all of the other fine businesses must bear the burden for the city of Branson's greed to be a land monger. Just like the Fed's, Branson spends more than it can generate. Loo at the Meadows(TIF), if not for OTC the place would go under.
