Attorney General Chris Koster is announcing that Missouri is participating in a national settlement with Walgreens that will return 42-thousand dollars to the state’s Medicaid program.

Koster says the settlement resolves allegations that between 2005 and 2010 Walgreens unlawfully offered gift cards and gift checks to influence individuals who participated in government health care programs, to transfer their prescriptions to Walgreens’ pharmacies, which is illegal under Missouri and federal law.

Nationally, Walgreens will pay participating states and the federal government 7-point-9 million dollars in civil damages.

Koster said all parties involved with the Medicaid program must follow the rules, and he is pleased his office was able to recover these funds and return scarce health care dollars to the state ofMissouri.
