College of the Ozarks will hold a flag display and ceremony Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m., to honor those whose lives were taken during the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The flag display, which consists of nearly 3,000 American flags—one for each person lost in the 9-11 attacks, will be up the entire day of September 11, on the Alumni Center lawn at the campus entrance.

The College welcomes members of the community to visit the memorial during daylight hours, as well as attend a ceremony at 9 a.m., on the Alumni Center parking lot.

“The College began holding this memorial several years ago,” said Elizabeth Hughes, public relations director. “We feel that it is important to remember what occurred on that tragic day and to educate younger generations to remain vigilant, always.”

For more information on the 9-11 Memorial, please contact the Public Relations Office at (417) 690-2212.

The hard work it takes to put something like this on is a wonderful gesture by S of O-C of O to preserve the history of that tragic-horrible day is something that should be taught in our Government Schools too. It seems like only a private Christian School can do this in the politically correct world we all live in. What happened that fateful day proves that we did not a have a Defensive Military to ward off the bad guys. We only had an Offensive Military,FBI & CIA that did not communicate with one another. To quote Actor Strother Martin's line in the Paul Newman- 'Cool Hand Luke' movie: "What we got is failure to communicate!"
