5 National Guard troops from Southwest Missouri are being deployed to the Middle East this week, including a 40 year old soldier from the small Stone County town of Hurley. All are part of the 185^th Theatre Aviation Company, and will be overseas an estimated 6 months. Sergeant Randall Stewart will say goodbye to family and friends during a departure ceremony Friday afternoon at the Guard’s Aviation Maintenance Facility in Springfield:

Stewart couldn’t give specifics of the mission, but the National Guard said in a news release that the unit will be stationed in the Sinai Peninsula and will be involved with aerial observation and support and will supervise the security implementation of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty.
