Missouri Supreme Court To Hear Challenge of Senate District Map

The Missouri Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments next Thursday from a lawyer in Columbia who is challenging the newly drawn map of state senate districts.

The district boundaries for the 34 seats were redrawn by a panel of state appellate judges to reflect population changes based on the most recent census numbers for Missouri.

Attorney David Brown claims some of the new boundaries violate the State Constitution by un-necessarily splitting counties among multiple districts.

Brown asked the state’s high court to take the case without going through a trial court because of the short time frame between now and February 28th, the first date for candidate filings in Missouri.
