Decision 2012: 'Conversation with the Candidates' Scheduled; Republican US Senate Candidates Invited

Earls Family Broadcasting in Branson is announcing it will host a 90 minute ‘Conversation with the Candidates’ Monday, January 30, at Branson High School.

A combination debate and sit down talk with the Republican candidates running for United States Senate will be held at the high school’s multi-purpose auditorium located at 935 Buchanan Road, starting at 7 pm.

The Decision 2012 event will be moderated by Hometown Radio News Director Monte Schisler. It will air on 100.1 FM KOMC, and will stream live on the station’s website www.HometownDailyNews.com.

All three Republican candidates who have announced their intentions to file for the office currently held by incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill have been invited to participate in the program.

Former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, and current 2nd District Congressman Todd Akin have agreed to attend the ‘Conversation with the Candidates’.

A spokesman for the 3rd likely candidate, St. Louis businessman John Brunner, has said he is unable to commit at this time, saying the campaign’s original verbal commitment to Earls Family Broadcasting last November was to a debate, not to a specific date. The spokesman went on to say that the filing deadline is still months away and there will be plenty of opportunities for a debate as the election draws closer. Hometown Radio has said Mr. Brunner has a standing invitation to participate, but the event will be held regardless of his attendance.

Members of the Branson High School Speech and Debate Team will assist with the ‘Conversation with the Candidates’, serving as hosts for each candidate and other state and local Republican party leaders and other dignitaries that will attend.

Local, state and national media outlets will be invited to cover the event, with an RSVP required to accommodate their space and broadcast needs.

The ‘Conversation with the Candidates’ will be free and open to the public.  Ticket details are still being worked out.
