It’s now up to the Missouri Supreme Court to decide the validity of recently drawn maps for new State Senate districts. An attorney for a western Missouri woman asked the state’s high court Thursday to block the implementation of the latest boundaries, saying the map violates the state constitution by unnecessarily splitting counties among multiple districts.
The State Senate districts were redrawn by a panel of state appellate judges to reflect population changes after the 2010 census.
The state argues the proposed map is constitutional.
The Missouri Attorney General has said nothing prohibits the redistricting commission from revising the map.
It’s not known how long the State Supreme Court will take to issue a ruling.
