The Green Forest School Board has decided to buy-out the remainder of an employee contract from the Superintendent of Schools. Superintendent John Calaway was suspended with pay back in November, and was due back to work January 2nd, but decided to use vacation time until a deal could be worked out. The Carroll County News reports the vote was 6 to 1 in favor of the buy-out, with John Baily the lone dissenting vote, saying it was a waste of the taxpayer’s money.
The deal calls for the school district to pay Calaway a lump sum of 100-thousand dollars.
Callaway had been Superintendent at Green Forest since the summer of 2010. His original contract was set to expire in 2013. Andrea Martin, the school district’s Director of Instruction and Federal Programs has been serving as interim Superintendent until a full-time replacement can be hired.
