Lawsuit Challenging New Missouri House Districts

A new legal challenge over dealing with the way Missouri divided up its legislative districts. Springfield television station KY3 is reporting this time it deals with the boundaries for the 163 member House of Representatives.

The television station is reporting that in a lawsuit filed Monday, more than a dozen people, including two former lawmakers, say a new House district map violates the state constitution based on allegations it violates requirements that districts be compact and have similar populations.

The State Supreme Court is being asked to rule on the case, without it going before a trial court first.

A similar case involving State Senate boundaries was sent back to the Governor last week. He is choosing a new commission to draw up that map.

The first day for filing for office in the State Legislature is February 28th.
