The Missouri Supreme Court has decided, for now, not to get involved in the constitutionality of a new district map for the State House of Representatives.
Springfield television station KSPR is reporting that the high court made its decision Thursday afternoon. Plaintiffs claimed the new map violated a requirement that districts have similar populations and be compact. They asked the Supreme Court to make a decision, rather than taking it to trial court first. Judges said no, at least for now.
The ruling from the Supreme Court allows a legal challenge to be filed in a state trial court, and if that occurs, instructed any lower court judge hearing the case, to decide quickly.
Candidates start filing for office February 28th.
