Taney County’s legal counsel will investigate the error in distribution of tax funds which has affected four local school districts.  That from Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman, during a meeting requested by Collector Sheila Wyatt, to discuss the computer programming error in her office which resulted in incorrect distribution of the funds.  Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman said the county will work through the situation, and find a solution…

A request for an audit must come from the commission.  The state auditor’s office told HometownDailyNews.com it has no authority in this matter, that it’s a local issue, and that as of Thursday morning, the office had not been asked to conduct an audit. CountyAuditorRick Findley says his office has no statutory responsibility in the matter.  The situation came to light when the Kirbyville school district released a statement saying it had been advised of the error by the collector’s office.  The errors also affect the Hollister, Branson and Forsyth school districts.

Houseman says the incident is not the fault of any of the school districts.  Kirbyville schools released a statement late last week indicating that the collector’s office had informed them of the error.  Also affected are funds received by Hollister, Branson and Forsyth school districts.

First I was totally amazed at the comments against Sheila Wyatt and asking her to resign. Shows the mentality of many of the tax payers here in Taney County. No one was overly concerned that we over paid Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman during his tenure as Economic Development Director. It was eased by saying he didn't go over budget so...... what's your point. I know for a fact that many offices didn't go over budget and yet raises wasn't given to those offices. I believe that there should be an outside audit with a firm NOT connected in any way with Taney County nor Ron Housman. Sheila has put up with enough hassle from Taney County and with regards to her taking her paycheck and going home every night - what's wrong with that because the Tax Assessor and Houseman do it evry night and it also costs the county tax payers more money. Oh yeah how about all the layoffs in 2011 and at what wages where new ones hired (friends of Housman)in with less experience. Now we are going to possibly hire an assistant for Human Resource ($30,000) when the job isn't being done right now. And for God sakes don't question the Human Resouce Drector as she will bite your head off!!!! Boy that makes a whole lot of sense. Come on folks take an interest in where you tax dollars are actually going. This mistake wasn't done on purpose it was a computer error!!!! Not like the hiring and wages mentioned here.

Is it not Rick Findley's job to check, double check and balance our books? Why are we always having to pay for state audits? He needs to address how he missed this for 10 years.
