Governor Nixon Appoints New Commission to Re-Draw State Senate Map

The new commission appointed to re-draw Missouri’s State Senate districts will hold its first meeting February 18th in Jefferson City.

Governor Jay Nixon appointed the new commission after the State Supreme Court rejected an earlier re-districting plan.  5 Democrats and 5 Republicans make up the group. 

Locally, Springfield attorney and former State Representative Doug Harpool is a member.

The State Senate districts are re-drawn every ten years after census numbers are announced.

Springfield attorney Doug Harpool is the only person from Southwest Missouri appointed by Governor Jay Nixon to a commission that is in charge of re-drawing a district boundary map for the state’s 34 Senate seats.

The commission will hold is first meeting February 18th in Jefferson City.

The State Supreme Court rejected an earlier plan, telling the Governor to start all over.
