A proposed piece of legislation in the Missouri House would let school districts across the state lease advertising space on their school buses to help cover transportation costs.

Republican State Representative Mike Kelley of Lamar came up with the idea.  He says some ads would be forbidden, including those featuring gambling, alcohol, tobacco or political causes.

If approved, the State Board of Education would ultimately write the rules for the advertising plan.

House Bill 12-73 has been referred to the Urban Issues Committee for discussion.

People have the attention span of gnats - the big blinking light and stop sign should be the only thing that drivers are focused on. A child's safety is worth more than covering expenses. This isn't NASCAR.

Kelley is not the first individual to have this idea.
