Nelly Concert Will Be Moved

By: Sally Kaucher
Posted: Thursday, July 29, 2010

Information contained on the website for the Grand Palace indicates "there will still be a Nelly concert August 21st, but at a different location to be announced." Organizer Paul Dunn says the new location will be announced shortly.

The Grand Palace website now contains entries posted Wednesday which include information on the decision of Branson aldermen to affirm the denial of a Special Event Permit for an outdoor concert behind the Grand Palace. Also posted is a video of comments from Springfield residents about the concert. And there is a link to the audio from Tuesday night's meeting of Branson aldermen, when a hearing was held on the appeal from Paul Dunn.

Attorney Anissa Bluebaum had indicated Tuesday night that the case would be taken to Taney County Circuit Court.

Since Paul Dunn is from Branson West, let him put the concert on there. In his backyard!

I have never seen soooo many closed minded people. I personally am not a Nelly fan nor do my kids like him, but you people think this town is gonna thrive on the old people that are coming to Branson right now you're nuts. These people won't live forever. Maybe you are not thinking the city has no problem allowing The Landing to play loud music, oh yeah the city profits from that. This town is full of alot of Hipocrits. I hope I don't know any of you personally. Remember your parents didn't like your music either. And if you think this will bring bad things to Branson, guess what, it's already here and has been here for a while. Remember the hostage situation and prostitution rings that have been busted. I've been here over 25 years and have read about plenty of drug busts and murders. Open your eyes. Raeanne Presley your family is in the music industry surely you know the wide variations. Andy Williams does. He's saner than most of you.

If Branson can not open their minds and allow this concert then I say BOY COT BRANSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is 2010 not the 1970's!! Stay home and let the generation paying YOUR social security have some fun!
idea!! - 07/29/2010 1:18:17 PM
if it needs to be a special event.....lets donate part of the tickets sales to one of Nelly's charities!! Yes people of Branson he raises money for charities!! He give back to the community not just take take take!!! Learn from him!
Taney County Native - 07/29/2010 1:19:31 PM
I hope they move this concert to Hollister...obviously Branson doesnt need the money...I say GO HOLLISTER..and then in hopes that whoever wishes to see Nelly stays in Springfield or Harrison and doesnt spend a dime in Branson..Lets not forget the younger generation who wishes to see Nelly..will be able to VOTE someday soon! Shame on you Branson!! Whats going to happen someday when the Presly's are gone and all those old time shows..Branson will go Belly up..they are half way there now!
Just Jack - 07/29/2010 2:17:20 PM
Wow. way to go real estate girl. You show them people that the people of Branson welcome (almost) everyone. I wonder how commision you would turn down if the "trash" wanted to buy some property from you.

The other 2 that made comments should be ashamed. Just because you may not like the music of Nelly doesn't mean you need to voice your opinion about having the concert elsewhere. I don't care for the music of some of the Branson performers but who am I to say whether or not they should be in Branson. This is 2010 and we need to change our demographics if we want Branson to survive because Andy W and others will not always be around. If you look around at Orlando and Vegas you will see they too are changing to what the people that go there want to see or do not what the people who have been there the longest want.

you people are small-minded and ridiculous...attitudes like yours will eventually kill branson...it's happening already. we are only talking about a TWO HOUR concert!! It will bring thousands of people to town, many overnight...get over your prejudices and allow this concert!

Check the MO case net for info on Paul Dunn, also the Fayetteville Ark. P.D.

If Mr. Dunn sells 6000 tickets at $38 each, and the Sales tax is 11% then the City and the State of Missouri will lose some $24000 in sales tax. If Mr. Dunn moves the concert outside the City limits of Branson to maybe Hollister, Branson loses their city entertainment tax. That really makes good sense when the City is strapped for cash because of their Branson Landing debacle to turn down money doesn't it? Mr. Dunn has to remember he is dealing with "small" town people.
Mary - 07/29/2010 7:32:42 PM
Ok first I need to say that the Blue Eye / Lampe area would love to have Nelly! We are not trash!! real estate girl grow up
BBrown - 07/29/2010 7:39:47 PM
Come on people, what is wrong with an entertainer that appeals to a younger crowd. I have heard for the past seventeen years about how Branson is a "family" town. Well, last time I checked my "family" included several teens and young adults and they are great people. I applaud Mr. Dunn for attempting to take on the establishment and reach out to the youth in the area. I take great offense to the implication that the concert would attract "trash." I have found that the youth of this area are anything but "trash." Give these kids some credit and give people like Mr. Dunn an opportunity to bring something to the area to entertain them. Maybe Blue Eye, Branson West or Hollister would be willing to step up and host this event. Give our young people things to do and they won't be out getting into trouble.

Congratulations to Mr. Dunn for at least trying to bring some new life into Branson. I feel that the shows in Branson must adapt to the new generation's style of music or risk the fate of closing their doors ( as i have seen much of this in the past 5 years or so)!

How about going to the Missouri Court on-line and type in the name Dunn Construction on the litigant name search. Please note he is being sued by a paint and finishing company. Think maybe he didn't pay his bill? Looks like his trial is set for August 26. https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/base/welcome.do

No other theatres do outdoor concerts. Why start allowing it now. If you want to hear the concert--buy a ticket! Keep the noise inside please.
Taney co resident - 07/30/2010 5:00:11 AM
Branson is bound and determined to keep current national acts out of town. The blue hairs win again. We who live here travel to Springfield and beyond to spend our entertainment dollars.Contrary to what local politicans think, we are in the 21st century NOT the 19th.
show support - 07/30/2010 6:02:15 AM
i have lived in branson almost half my life and i havent been to a show in almost 10 years, because they all do the same thing. if mr dunn wants to bring in something new, then by all means let the man. i am not a fan of nelly but i will go just to show my support. lets bring some buisness in for the locals who have hotels and restraunts that are going under. the older couples that come to branson are always looking for a bargain, they will not be here forever so lets bring in a younger crowd to take their place. people who want to bring their kids and know that they will have something to do in branson. my parents brought me to branson when i was younger and i had never even heard about this place. i hated country music and was very upset about being dragged into a town that was made for old people. the only thing that branson has for a younger crowd is the parks and dixie stampede. i have people ask me all the time about what is a good place for kids. i cant ever think of anything other than the parks or dixie, so lets show a little support for someone who is trying to bring in money for all the family operated buisnesses.
Ready for Change - 07/30/2010 7:15:20 AM
Sounds like the "grandfathers" of Branson are really more like "great, great grandfathers" and have picked on One too many people... looks like Mr Dunn is not going to be picked on and is going to put up a fight... he just might open the doors for Branson and let the "grandfathers" know they can't bully folks anymore... good luck Mr Dunn
Blue hair - 07/30/2010 8:11:24 AM
Is there any reason we have to degrade the older people that visit Branson in this discussion? They have only come to enjoy our area. Prejudice is pre-judging someone without knowing them. Simply because someone has grey hair doesn't make them bad.
real estate girl - 07/30/2010 9:57:09 AM
This has nothing to do with being closed minded. The city does not need a person who puts curse words in his music. Look at song #13 on his website. There are alot of other entertainers and bigger names, someone just needs to be a salesman and get them here! Going from one extreme to another is not the answer. If you want this kind of music, move to st louis. Rap is crap and everybody knows it!
resident - 07/30/2010 10:15:10 AM
I have read all of these comments, and most of you are wrong! What a big bunch of CHARLATANS! You all would sell your soul for money. You all think this will make you rich? Get a clue. If you don't keep this out now we will all be sorry and this town willnever be the same

BS - 07/31/2010 10:33:50 AM
I find it kinda funny that on this very website on the 28 they had a story about the aldermen meeting and right below it. There was a story saying Landing gets ready for outdoor concert. I can't find that story now. And for all teh missinformed people Nelly's concert is going to be an edited version without the explicited lyrics and no alcohol is going to be sold there either. People need to get their facts strait before opening their mouths. This is not about the way in which the city has mislead and treated Mr.Dunn for the permit. People need to read everything and know whats going on before they say something that makes them look like a fool.
Classy Guy - 07/31/2010 10:37:54 PM
Mr. Dunn is likely to join the ranks of the "I lost my a** in Branson" club. What the he** are some people thinking? I can say a** on here, because the people that listen to Nelly are not offended by cuss words. These people let their kids fill their brains with this junk and then wonder why they are all screwed up. No wonder Obama got elected as ignorant as our society is becoming. I thought the Grand Palace was supposed to be the jewel of Branson, not the cesspool.

Younger Generation. - 08/01/2010 6:50:15 PM
I'm 19 years old and have lived in Branson my whole life. There has never been anything in this town for younger people. Not trying to bash older people or anything but... shouldnt there be something here for teenagers? IM READY FOR CHANGE! i'm not a big Nelly Fan... but i personally think it's a very good idea to bring these concerts to Branson... why not try something new for once?? Oh wait, this is Branson!! This town is going to end up losing its a** when all the older people in the shows are gone and there arent anymore shows!!! Then what? No one will come to Branson... can we really afford that!!! BY THE WAY. this isnt 1970 this is 2010.... and just remember whose going to be voting in the next elections!!! haha. BRING ON THE NELLY CONCERT!!!
joe the plummer - 08/01/2010 8:31:29 PM
why not let nelly come to branson i think it will giv ryoung people something to do for a change . because theres not crap to do in branson.. it always the same country music blaa!!the city has no problem with the landing do outdoor concerts.. and when the riped up old town branson to build a bunch of crapy places to shop that does not even have any thing to offer the a person who works for a living !!!.In this town !!! so bring nelly to town and maybe some heavy metal like alice cooper would that not turn city hall inside out !!! get over it brasnon this town sucks !!!!!

Branson allows fights to be held outdoors at the Outback pub and outdoor concerts at Dick Clarks area 57.
Classy Guy - 08/03/2010 4:20:16 PM
To: Younger Generation There are thousands of acts that can be brought to Branson, MO. Why do we need to settle for the bottom of the barrel? That is my "personal" opinion. This is not really about politics, race, or even taste in music. It is really about process and logistics.
